...matter that it was a disputed work? That is, it's authorship by Paul has been disputed. Neither Jesus or Paul directly makes any reference to the subservience of women. Paul in his confirmed writings even states that were female leaders. In fact Paul has said that in Christ there are no distinction between male and female, all are equal...
So, what gives? What's up with the letter to Timothy?
Serious scholars date the work in the late first century - after Paul's death.
So if the book of Timothy didn't exist, how would that factor in having women pastors?
I can write a letter and say it is from Paul. Paul's name carried some weight. If I wanted to get a point to be received I say it is from someone with authority.
Gee fellas, look I found, a letter from Paul to Timothy that says...
in regards to dating.
Those who say it is authentic dates it during Paul's lifespan.
Those who say it isn't date it afterwards.
Additionally, the language isn't the same as Paul's other works, that is, Paul had a certain style he used when writing. He spoke about things in a different manner than what is presented in Timothy.
You can say it isn't the same spirit here.
