Ideas to keep my cat from over grooming?

I have a cat who has put on a LOT of weight lately. She has been to the vet and is now on a low cal diet. However, because she has gotten so fat, she can only groom her sides...so she is going overboard and over grooming herself. She has actually licked all the hair off in a 6 in diameter circle. I've been applying bitter spray on it, but she continues to lick and chew. Any ideas? There is no infection, fungus, or any other irritation...it's simply a case of over grooming.

Sounds like this cat is one big CATastrophe, time to kick that thing to the CURB GIRLFRIEND!

Shes not licking because that's all she can reach..she's licking from stress. It's a behavorial problem.
You changed her diet and routine so in a pet that's a stress reaction.
How do you know there is no fungus?
A cat that over grooms will NOT have bald spots..they will have "fuzz" it will be more of broken hair then baldness.
I just went through this with one of my cats.
Anti depressants are the treatment but i refused to do that and just try to keep my cat as "stress free" as possible. It is growing back but this was back in July and it's just filling in.

Maybe you could try brushing her more often so she won't feel the need to groom at all or maybe get her some new toys that could serve as a distraction for her.
