I think broken glass is interesting. I love the laminated windscreen glass that pebbles when smashed. This is just 30 seconds of thought.....but what about exploring the idea that glass is almost fluid. You could make something like a river of broken glass. I was talking to a famous physicist about glass and he said that it is actually something like a liquid but incredibly slow moving. If you look at glass that is 150 years old you can actually see how it has slightly distorted.
I was at a Temple in Kyoto in Japan and out in the courtyard were two perfectly conical mounds of salt (about 5 feet high) they were quite striking. Maybe you could do something like that with glass.
An Australian artist uses 6 foot long rods of glass in public installations which are quite striking but I think we are getting to the more expensive side of the street now.
