I am 18 and asian and I am a Idealist ( a strong one) and it may because I am young but thats me.
I understand Idealism is less important than realism and reality could exist without idealism ( a primitive one however) and Idealism cannot exist in reality without realism (someone actually doing it)
I try to be unbiased in everything even if one side is completely ridiculous. I tend to be the underdog a 4 to 1 ratio in this debate.
Myself I am a day dreamer and maybe my idealism has gone too far since im currently doing nothing and I admit I lack reality but both are needed.
One of the topics we covered was the importance of the past.
I stated that the past affects us today not just the past and is important and needs to be learned.
Such as Martin Luther King and his affect on our country. Not only him but others as well such as Ghandi. We could still be in segregation and heavily discriminated against with not just African Americans but all minorities.
My opponent argues the fact that what has happened has happened and we must move on and is unimportant to our daily lives.
Another topic was the government
I stated that governments are based on ideals and that affects us today
Living in a communist country or democratic country does affect the way you live.
I apply however the yin yang theory that neither could be correct and that a bit of both is needed.
Even the US is not a democracy the country we live in now.
My opponent states that if it was then that's just how life is and what about the people living in a communist country now what can they do?
So what do you guys have to say about this.
Also comment on me personally and my thinking.
Is there any hope or should I just change.
What are some careers you can suggest for me. I understand that philosophy and history have no specific skills learned. Like engineering you learn engineering a specific category. I am constantly day dreaming and always come up with ideas which I could do all day
