I'd like to read some poetry but don't know where to start - please help?

The idea of reading poetry never really appealed to me, but I'd like to try it and see if I like it.
I would appreciate any anthology poem books, or a poem collection.
Something very beautiful, and sad, maybe.
Thank you.

Poetry Please volumes are excellent (and not expensive).
I would also suggest starting off with a couple of Daisy Goodwin's collections of verse - you will soon find out whose poetry you want to read more of.
Another suggestion is Poems on the Underground.

You have a lot of enjoyment ahead of you!

Life is twisted until you die
It unravels and what you find
Feelings that I have for you
Cannot describe my life so true
Living all my life a lie
Trying, trying to get by
It will happen now and then
It’s a circle until the end
You think you learned but you did not
You fall right back
And try to change
But everything remains the same
Just let it go it will be fine
Life will continue
To grow and strive

I recommend Thomas Hardy - the verbal equivalent to Turner (the artist)

Also, look up Poetry Please on the BBC website - Poets rock!

Start with Robert Frost. He is easy to understand for beginners. Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening. Fire and Ice. Two of my personal favorites.
