yep that ibu can seriously create some nasty stomach issues thats for certain. i cannot take that stuff at all or aspirin since it creates a nightmare for my stomach. has he ever tried aleeve? its still an NSAID with the same anti inflammatory properties, but it is a bit milder on the stomach and it does last around 8 hours or so so you only have to dose it like twice a day? its actually naproxen sodium that you can also buy in a generic version too. this stuff i actually can take once in a while anyways.
what i am actually wondering here is if your hubby may not have actually suffered at lest some level of possible rotator cuff related injury here? believe me, once certain areas within that very complicated rotator area become damaged or injured in some way, it most definitely CAN create alot of ongoing pain in that whole area of the "shoulder' both in front and in back, which WOULD include the muscles over the chest area, along with that whole scapular area in the back as well too depending upon just what became injured/damaged?
our rotator cuRAB are just a ton of tendons, ligaments and muscles, among other structures that simply 'do' alot of work over our lifetimes. that whole cuff and that acro joint(the most highly mobile joint we actually have in our bodies) just takes on alot of ongoing wear and tear and anything that you also may do that just requires heavy lifting or continuous movemet within that shoulder joint as well can create some definite areas of weakness within mostly the tendons that will eventually become somewhat torn, frayed and made much more susceptable to real tearing or even a complete tear of usually the very top tendon that runs across from the base of the neck on out to the top of our shouder/arm bone? that particular tendon is the supraspinatus(the MOST commonly torn only because of its constant use) and the one that one morning just decided to completely snap on me. i knew i had pain and some type of 'issues" within my rotator 'area' just by pain and some burning going on off and on for many years, but did NOT have a clue that it had actually slowly been tearing during those years of heavier use til it just went when only trying to lift my purse up off the fridge one morning? i lifted and immediately felt like a pull then 'something' let go? i had to actually drop the purse since i had immediately also lost that ROM ability right then and there too? and the pain just shot thru the roof.
the only way to truely know for certain just what has been damaged within that rotator area is an MRI. my primary tried to run me thru all of the many ROMS when i went to see him after my crap happened and i just either could NOT actually move that rom in certain ways or it hurt like heck to even try it. thats when he sent me for a very revealing MRI. i had a completly snapped supra and the one tendon directly under it was starting to tear since it had been trying to help compensate for the one above it that was tearing even more over time? i also had tendonitis bursitus and alot of overall wear and tear damage that we all kind of just end up with only becasue how heavily we rely on and simply use the shoulder/arm?
i would seriously get hubby to get referred for the MRI in hopes that he only has some level of real tearing going on that if actually taken care of NOW instead of waiting til that pain gets soo bad or that whole tendon actually snaps like mine did, it will be a much more in depth type of surgical repair vs what 'only' would have to be resewen back together that is still attached but torn kinda thing? he just really does NEED to know how his inner shoulder area actually is now, instead of later, seriously. the surgery i had to have ONLY because i had that complete snap of that very crucial tendon and the other stuff that needed to be cleared out and partially sewen was sooo much more in depth and painful post op with a much longer recovery and PT back to normal than if i had just had that MRI done well before when i was 'only' in that pain and burn stage would have been. this just is NOT a thing you want to wait til you simply cannot actually even do certain ROMS anymore. if a good ortho just gets in there with a scope, he can do everything thru just tiny little incisions. i have a huge incision scar across the top of my shoulder now where they had to make that bigger incision only because it had a complete vs partial tear. i could really care less about the stupid scar, it was just that much more in depth surgery that was needed due to the level of injury that also is what increased my post op pain and also a major rehab of that whole shoulder too.
my best advice to you right now would be to simply get him referred by his primary for that needed MRI just to find out how the rotator cuff area actually is right now(this also looks at the shoulder joint itself and the muscles attached to those particular tendons too). honestly, its just so much simpler and way less invasive and painful to have to 'only' sew up possible tears right now vs what i had to go thru with the one complete. i wish both of you luck with this. i hope the damage is not too severe right now. please keep me posted.
