Chapter 1
The Seeing
BRING BRING BRING!! My alarm clock rang demanding me to awake. A sliver of golden light intruded through the gap in the red curtains and bled through my closed eyelids. I lay in my bed wondering if I could get away with just a few more minutes of sleep but quickly pushed the idea out of my mind as I remembered what day it was. Still half conscious, I stepped out of my queen sized bed and placed my feet into the fuzzy lime green slippers that sat atop the mahogany floor boards. I shuffled over the window and pulled the curtains allowing the misty light to come streaming in. Just another normal day in the normal town of Ashville, North Carolina, for a normal person, which I am most defiantly not. Looking at the clock on my bedside table I decided that I should proceed to the shower so I would have extra time to get ready for him. As I walked to the door I saw a piece of paper folded up on my desk of drawers and, being the perfectionist that I am, picked it up on my way out of the room. I trudged down the hall and into the bathroom connecting to the master bedroom which, for this weekend and this weekend only, was unoccupied. See my parents are probably not like your parents; mine are secret agents for the CIA. We moved here about three months ago after the FBI tracked down some mysterious behavior around these parts and didn’t want to burst in on all the peaceful lives here in Ashville; so they sent my parents and trapped me in the small town. Now don’t get me wrong, I love it here, but it’s not very interesting for a girl who used to live in Micronesia, a small island of the coast of North America.
As the shower warmed up I sat the toilet seat down and read the piece of paper I had acquired: Alia, Meet me in the parking lot at 3:30 after school, K?? – Ophelia. I wonder if it is about Tait. Whatever, I guess I will find out.
After my lukewarm shower I jogged back into my room. I slipped into my Guess Skinny Jeans and pulled my pink halter top over my head. I wonder if my mom fixed me breakfast. I hope she did I’m starving. I made it into the kitchen and looked in the fridge hoping she left some food for me, no such luck. Instead of making Japanese full nine course breakfasts I learned I to make while living in Tokyo, I poured myself a bowl of cereal. I chugged down my fruit loops and hustled back up stairs to grab my brown blazer. Ding dong, the doorbell rang. My heart stopped and then picked up in over time. That can’t be him already. Oh n, I hope I look okay. Flashing a worried glance in my bedside mirror I slipped a tube of lip gloss in my pocket then set off for what seemed like a mile long trip down the twisting stairs. Finally I reached my destination in front of the main entrance way. The doorbell chimed again and this time it seemed to be counting out the seconds until I opened the door. On the fifth chime my hand shot out, without my consent I may add, and twisted the door open. “Hello” a soft, deep, velvety smooth voice proclaimed, “you sure know how to drive a man insane.” I was driving him insane? He has got to be kidding.
“Hello, sorry to keep you waiting.”
“Oh don’t get me wrong I never dislike waiting on a woman, may I help you with your books?”
What an odd question,” I thought “the only books I have are in my bag.” But sure enough he was motioning to the white suede book bag dangling from my shoulder. I thought maybe he was trying to remove what looked like a too heavy a load for my fragile make up to handle, but it was really nothing for a girl who could flip a man with just one motion of her arm.
“Yes you may my kind sir.” I said starting to remove the pack from where it hung but he wasn’t having that.
“Let me help you.” He proclaimed slipping it off my arm in one swift move. Then it hit me, here I was standing in front of the most beautiful guys in school and he was offering to take me books. Tait had to be one of the most gentle, kind, and loving boys the world has ever contained and not to mention he had devastatingly good looks. His brown shaggy hair hung just below the cutoff of his perfect ear and caressed his cheek making him look like a Greek god. He had warm chocolate brown eyes that sparkled every which way. His smile, with all those perfectly straight shinning white teeth, shined like the sun and could light up your whole world with just one peek. And there he stood with my pack over his shoulder walking me to his car. Once I entered the Shiny Black car he called the Viper, I took a glance at my appearance in the rearview mirror. My black hair draped over my shoulder and ran just one inch above my chest. My eyes which were a bright and powerful green added a mysterious essence to my face. My eyes had to be the best feature portrayed on my face and, for some weird reason, seemed to get me anything I wanted when I wanted it. My skin was crystal clear and quite tan for it to be in the middle of the winter. I wasn’t ugly but I wasn’t bea
