I worked hard on this paper and I got a C, should I discuss it with my instructor?

I worked hard on this paper, but my instructor took off points because I didn't "cite" my sources correctly. I didn't plagerize but she's telling me that even if I didn't directly include a direct quotation, that I need to cite. It was completely different from the text, and in my own words, and not even relevant. I included a reference page and everything, I just don't understand why points were taken off to the point where I got a C. I don't see this as fair, and now I have a C. I'm thinking of talking to her about it, should I to see what the problem was?

Thanks for any input. I'm upset right now and beating myself because of a C.
(Freshman in college if that means anything)
Not arguing, just want to see what was my problem "citing" these sources... I don't understand. She said the paper was well written...
Thanks everyone.
