don't know where to start? I have a Samsung S1070 but i can't get a better camera right now. I just need some tips and a starting point. i don't know much about photography. Thanks.

I agree with he individuals who have commented below. No need to go out and drop thousands of dollars on new equipment. I have seen countless photos that were taken with digital or film SLR cameras and studio strobes/soft boxes/strip lights, etc that looked like crap and I have seen some images taken with a PS camera that looked very nice. It's about capturing the moment and composition. COMPOSITION is what makes the photo pop!

dont worry about how good your camera is to start. Just go and take pictures of anything interesting and pay attention to the composition of the picture. You can use a free photo editor to crop the picture to see what it might look like if you had framed it differently.

There should be books from your local library on photography that would help.

From the specifications you cant manually focus it, but you can override the exposure , although you can do that in a photo editing program too.

The camera is quite high resolution so that would allow cropping of the picture to improve the composition and still be very printable .

Photography can be a very interesting hobby. I also has the possibility of becoming very expensive...if you let it. But you can literally start from anywhere.

Technique counts for so much of photography, and however I disagree a little with the fact that it doesn't matter what your camera is. You know there's the saying "A good builder never blames his tools"? Well what that saying doesn't say is a builder won't build a house without the right tools.

I suppose this is an industry problem, as photography became more affordable for the masses, they demanded an easier to use and cheaper device...through which the point and shoot has developed...it has killed the market for passionate photographers by giving control of things to a computer.

Depending on how simple or advanced your camera is you should be able to experiment with composition, and some basic exposure techniques. Join some photographic websites, and your local photographic meetup group (sometimes called flickrmeet or flickr group).

However you eventually will need to be able to take over a lot more control as you grow...so start saving...even if it's for a 35mm film SLR.
