I was recently on a website where you can randomly chat with strangers anonymously....?

and i told my parents about it. My dad HATES the idea of going onto a new website to talk to a random stranger. I have been chatting ever since I started learning how to use a computer. What is the threat of a chat if I never give out personal info? Please explain this.
