i am a vegetarian meaning i don't eat red meat, sea food, fish, etc. no meat in general, however i do have milk and eggs.

last week i went in tim hortons for lunch, and i was asking about their soups trying to find out what was in them. i was talking to the manager and was told that the creamy soups had milk, most of the broths were made with beef or chicken, and that the french onion and vegetable soup was safe for me... so i got the french onion!

today i found myself on the tim hortons website and came across the 'vegetarian' part of the site. under french onion it said there was artificial beef flavoring!!!!

what is it? is it okay for me? im scared i ate something i should't have :s

As a vegan, this writer tends to avoid eating food items that include unidentifiable products. Could an artificial beef flavor include ingredients from other animals, as well as MSG, and other chemicals? I'm not sure and it doesn't seem like such information is readily available.

Panera Bread restaurants have a loose-leaf binder at each location (you may need to ask at the counter) listing every ingredient in every menu item.

Good luck!

Like with the seasonings on Lays and Hostess potato chips like Roast chicken and Gravy flavours and other's, it is not real meat in them they synthesize the flavours with veggie and yeast extracts, smoke flavour and tomato powder, like Hickory Sticks from Hostess have no real bacon in them, the key word was flavouring in the statement, I use hickory salt from the Bulk Barn for my BBQ sauce instead of Liquid smoke, as I know it is non animal based, as I use it on veggie and meat items

If you are scared, then contact TIM HORTONS, not people on this website. Their corporate office can tell you what makes up the artifical beef flavoring and if the soup is indeed vegetarian.
