...car insurance company? About two years ago I was in a fairly major accident in my parents boat, which I was driving. I do not believe it was my fault (it was at night, the other boat had no lights on while I had running lights) but the claim is still being settled through my parents' insurance. I'm currently purchasing a new car, and need to get my own insurance for it. When they ask, "Were you in a traffic accident?" am I required to tell them about the boat accident? The rate increase makes it so that I pretty much can't afford the car according to online quotes, which seems ridiculous given the circumstances.
