...Honda Civic.? I have 2001 Honda Civic 1.7L non v-tec engine. It runs fine on local roads but when I get it on the highway its get very hard to maintain a speed of 100-120 km/hr and accelerates very slowly and I can hear the engine rev. I checked if the gear shifts to the 4 th gear (checked it by changing the gear from D to D3 and I can feel the kick down. Some mechanics are saying that the Catalytic converter is bad, others are saying that the transmission is bad and yet others are saying the engine has lost power. I am totally confused as to which mechanic to trust. Any advice people? Thanks

Your gonna hate this answer, any of those mechanics could be correct it is also 7 yrs old almost 8, now for the good news any decent mechanic should be able to diagnose this problem for certain one way or another, hope this helps

Add: this vehicle at least in the states has an on board diagnosis device that can rule out the engine or catalitic converter issues

could be the transmission
but you gotta know that the civic only has about 115hp
which makes you accelerate slowly
i say swap it for a K20 200hp and you'll feel the power
