I want to start doing photography....what do i need to do to start this as a hobby?

I work a full time job, but I have recently become interested in photography as a hobby, I just my snap and shoot camera, but I can never seem to obtain the beauty of the picture using my cheep kodak camera. What do I need to do or have to fullfil this hobby?
