I want to sell my zebra finches at a bird sale, but…?
I have already figured out who I will contact, how much it will cost and all that, but what else will I have to do? I decided to book one trestle (not yet, maybe next year, or more at the end of this year) and I am going to be selling my zebra finches. Should I "save up" my finches? I have a large cage to put them all in, and so far I have three finches that I've bred. Of course I will worm and spray them with mite and lice spray, and I know they are healthy, happy birds because they get fruit and veg most days, as well as fresh seed, eggshells, and fresh water everyday. I also have bred their parents, and I have their grand parents. Soon I am going to be introducing a few new pairs to my aviary, and I am very careful not to EVER interbreed finches. I have two aviaries, where I keep the related males, and the related females. So there is no way there will be any father-daughter or mother-son matings. I always know which chicks belong to who, and so there is really no need to band them. Should I sort them in colours, or gender, or non related birds, or should I put them in pairs? I want to be able to, maybe, price them, for instance, the prettiest birds are more expensive, while the more common, or blander ones are cheaper. Does anyone know a good site where it has all the different colours and pictures to match? Should I also say who the parents were as well? And also, how much should I sell them for?
I would really appreciate it if anyone could answer my questions, and properly please! Best answer is 10 points!
P.S If anyone asks, I am not going to treat my birds like breeding machines. I give them everything to make them comfortable, and after 3-4 batches (depending on how many chicks there is) they aren't allowed to have anymore kids until its been about 6-9 months. There are plenty of space and hiding places for the females to hide in if they like, just in case the males get a bit "rowdy", and they are treated well!
