I want to scan and reprint an old 4x6 photo in a larger size?

is it possible for me to have an old 4x6 photo made larger without loosing the quality it has?
if so how?
i would prefer if there was a way i could do it at home... so i just had to have it printed..

Hope that made sense...any help would be greatly appreciated.

It will very much depend on your scanner and your printer.
Scanning it in at a high dpi is probably your best chance at home.
I'd start with 1200 or even 2400 if your scanner supports it, and see how it prints.
