I want to play sports next year, any advice?

I'm a SR high school going pseo at a small private college. The school is too far from my high school so I couldn't play sports this year. I want to try out for the cross county and or basketball teams next year. I need some advice in how to go about talking to the coaches (what to say etc) and aything that I need to do to be eligible to play next year. Can anyone help me out? Thanks!!
