I want to mayor in psychology and minor in art? [also an nyu and columbia question]?

Ok, so my passion has always been art and i love psychology, so I was thinking of a mayor in psychology and minor in art, but I want to know what exactly studying art in college involve? Because I want to study art but also want to take some literature class or something, and I don't really want to be a psychologist, cause that would be like one crazy person helping another XD, but art would take time to become something big or such, :S and also what's better NYU or Columbia? And which one would be best for my choice? Or if you have any thoughts or advise, it would be great. :)
 
I'm not sure what you think a major in psychology will get you - you can't be a counselor without a masters and you need a PhD or PsyD to be a psychologist. The major by itself isn't all that useful if you're not going to grad school. NYU and Columbia are both great schools (NYU is probably better for art, Columbia for psychology) but both are very difficult to get into and very expensive, especially for an art major.
