I want to make a fan-film but...

Here's the thing, I have a few ideas to make a fan film based off the Sonic the Hedgehog series, in Flash 8 but how much would it cost to animate the thing? Basically it would be in storyboard form, but how do I make storyboards and get them on a computer, or do I just scan them? And how long would it take to animate a short sequence?

Well that depends, do you have flash, if not, then that's roughly a thousand or so dollars right there. Other then that though, it should be relatively cheap to do (granted that you don't run out of paper beforehand)

As for time, it all depends how much you have. Though normally, it'll probably take you at least a month or two if you have a fair amount of time. Longer if you don't.

If youre doing storyboards (or to be more precise, animatics), the speed in which it takes for you to finish is equal to how fast you draw.
If you're in school, you can save money on buying Flash or buying a scanner, by making the animation there, presuming the school has it.
Also, I wouldn't recommend investing too much money into a fan movie. You won't be making a lot of money off it, if any.

I already have Flash, currently about to return to school and for a scanner, my grandma has one and barely uses it. How do u make storyboards though?

You can search for free storyboard templates online, when you decide on that, you then have to know what aspect ratio you want it in. (4:3, or 16:9)
When making a storyboard, you draw basic poses of the characters in chronological order of a scene or sequence. You don't go into too much detail on the characters their, just enough for the next process, layout. In layout, you draw more detailed, and larger, key poses, and expressions for the animator to work from. From there the animator draws inbetweens to make the character move.
Basicaly, that's how it's done.
Or you can draw a character and move parts around in flash, but this process is very boring, and produces poor results.
Here's a great free blog that can tell you everything you could want to know about handdrawn animation

Also, watch the episode of Tiny Toon Adventures entitled 'Animaniacs' to see how it's done visualy. Hope this helped
