I want to learn photography...beginners SLR camera?

I'm 14 years old and I want to learn photography. I always try to take pictures with my phone...I use it more for taking pictures than texting or talking. My parents won't let me buy a normal digital camera to begin with because we already have a few lying around the house (they never show me where they are...) So I've decided to save up and just start with a digital SLR camera. My high school offers photography classes but sadly, freshmen don't usually get into that class.

What do you guys think I should do?
