I want to learn Ballroom dancing but i don't have a partner?

She's So Lovely

New member
I live in New Zealand and I'm 14 years old. I hardly have any guy friends, and I'm not close enough to them to ask if they would do dancing with me (which they wouldn't anyway). and they have girlfriends so that would be weird.

So i really want to join Ballroom dancing, after watching Dancing With The Stars. I can be quite flexible and good at dancing when i do exercise etc.

But i don't have a partner to do it with! None of my girl friends would do it with me (obviously, because we are not lesbian).

Help! What can i do?! Should i wait till I'm a bit older and have guy friends to start dancing?

In my experience a partner is not at all necessary. You rotate partners through the class anyways so you can learn to dance with many different people and their individual styles (such as weather they are gentle or firm lead.) Call local studios and tell them your situation, they will most likely tell you the same thing. There are plenty of singles that come to classes.
Instructors are often available as partners as well or student instructors. I always love when I get paired with a student instructor because the know the dance very well already and can help with any questions you might have. You also get the advantage of learning the steps correctly the first time around. What often happens to the lady is that her partner is struggling with the steps and therefore she cannot learn the follower's steps properly.
Don't wait if it's something you want to do. Just get involved and have fun! Good luck

Call your local dance lesson studio. Usually the teachers are available to act as partners and there are often other singles there. You may be paired with someone much older but the point is to have fun and learn. And no one would think you were a lesbian if your girlfriends took ballroom dancing with you, but you will have ot trade off on the lead partner because most dances have a male and female part. Again, just call the school as some have classes just for singers.
