I want to know something about martial arts?

well i want to learn martial arts to watch my self out in the streets and anywhere cause you never know i watch UFC and know a little can some one tell me the top 5 striking and grappling martial arts and i also i am willing to take one or more striking martial arts so if you know anything about this leave you answer thank you
 
that is the most annoying thing ever.

so what if you watch the UFC? that doesn't mean you know anything about martial arts.

top 5 striking arts? (not in order, and determined by popularity)
karate (there many styles all focus mostly on strikes)
muay thai
kung fu (again, many styles that focus on strikes)
caporiea
kickboxing/boxing

top 5 grappling arts? (same as before)
jiu-jistu
judo
wrestling
BJJ
greco-roman wrestling


but remember, almost all martial arts are more or less equal, it's the practitioners who are better.
