am thinking of changing careers because i love animals soo much. Where is there a school in toronto to learn how to groom dogs and is it really hard to learn?

hey, i'm nearly done training as a dog groomer in the UK.
its not that hard to learn, but take into consideration that EVERY breed of dog is groomed differently. some need cutting, some need electric clippers, and some you have to stand for absolutely ages and pluck hair by hand. a lot of dogs will get snappy with this method.
however i'm not trying to put you off at all. its great seeing the end result of your work and the reactions of the owners when their scraggly mutt is turned into a pampered little thing. its also very good pay, as here i get £30 for a medium dog, which takes me about and hour - hour and a half. i've not heard of grooming schools, but if you find a local company, they may hire you as an assistant, and train you as you go along.
its easier to start out with a single type of dog hair, like wire hair, or fluffy like labrador and border collie, and try another hair type once you've mastered the first, otherwise it just gets confusing and you end up shaving afgans O.O
good luck with it anyway :)
its such a rewarding job to do.

If you have a good eye and a sense of style, grooming is quite easy to learn. You need to realize that is it a physically demanding job that requires heavy lifting, repetitive motions and the like. There is also a risk for injury from bites and scratches. Good groomers are also good business people and they also have good people skills. Remember every animal that comes into a grooming shop has a human attached to it.
