I want to know how I can get the most power out of my car stereo?

Here's the setup:
I have a 180 (max) watts, 4 channel stereo (so 45 x 4)
it's connected to the 2 factory speakers through 2 separate channels
I also added 2 400 watt max 6x9's which are each 4 ohms

right now i have the speakers connected in parallel into 1 channel and it does seem to sound louder than if each one was into separate channels, but when i try to higher the volume after a certain point the sound comes out choppy and i have to lower the volume. i also tried the parallel but with the positive and negative from different channels instead of 1 and the sound still came out choppy. oh and i'm using just pieces of wires, but i got some 18 gauge and plan to redo the whole thing but i want to cut the new wire to its proper lengths.

again, i want to know what the best setup is so that i can get the most power out of my stereo. i also thought about experimenting with using all 4 channels on the two speakers or one if possible but don't want to mess with the wiring too much without knowing what will happen.
i just wanted wanted to make the speakers sound louder bass and voice wise what i had. i have no budget which is why i wanted to do that with what i already had. the speakers and head unit are both the vr-3 brand that walmart carries
the stereo has 4 x 21 rms
the speakers have 80 rms per pair

You simply have to a larger amp amd maybe a small sub you cant run your speakers like that theyll blow.spend more on replacing them? bigger amp small sub set to go

You can't do that. Hook up each speaker to an output of the head unit (HU, the stereo). That is 45x4 peak. RMS is closer to 18-20 per channel. You need an external amp. Ignore the peak, or max, numbers and only pay attention to RMS numbers. Those 6x9 speakers could be 40 watts RMS each. What brand and model are they? It might say on the magnet on the label. It is sounding like crap when you crank it up because the HU's internal amp is clipping. You are also trying to run it a 2-ohm load, which most HU amps won't do for long. They are just a little chip in the HU. Nothing like an amp you mount in the trunk or under a seat.
That experimenting you want to do is not wise. You might be buying a new HU before long.

What are your goals with the system? What is your budget? What are your skills in installing it?

Added: Take those speakers back. They are junk. Get at least the Pioneer speakers they have. Will sound alot better. Hook them up one speaker per channel.
