I want to do exercise but i DONT want to lose weight, any suggestions?

I weigh 8 stone and even though thats quite thin im not exactly fit. I want to be and i want to do exercise but at the same time not waste away. Do you know any exercises that would help? I want to tone my body and just have a fitter figure. Im 21. I want to do swimming but im afraid it will burn off alot of fat. I cant afford to buy more food than i am now, i am a student.
