i want to cancel my phone service, but dont want to pay termination fees?

ok so i want to switch over to att from tmo, b/c it sucks and i really want the iphone, but i dont want to pay the termination fees. some people have told me that sometimes tmo doesnt charge for cancelling is this true, and also does anyone know of an incentive of att that they will pay your termination fees so you can switch over??? plase help i alrready tired taling to them over the phone but didnt get a straight answer
