I want to buy a new hybrid bike. Any personal reccomendations for a fast bike?

Ive got a road racer but with the state of the roads I want to go with something a little sturdier however almost as fast as a racer? If anyone has a bike they could reccomend £500 and below thanks
 
INstead of a hyrid, look at a flat bar road bike. These tend to be 'faster' yet still have a riding posture that is friendlier than a drop bar model.
