i want to buy a 77 chevy with a 305 it seems kind of sluggish is this normal for...

...these engines?
i want to know if the engine will still run strong or if it means the engine will need to be replaced soon
i just want to know if the engine will still last awhile before i swap it out. it just kinda concerned me...but have never driven a 305 so i dont know.
