I want to be in charge in the Army?

I know the title is a bit rubbish, and sounds like I'm looking for dominate control, BUT what I'm trying to state is I'd like to have some power in the Army. I am enlisting next year, and I've met an ex Marine, and Army Vet. Who says MP is the way to go now and days. He says he was in change of a lot, but I'm not sure exactly what.
I hope you understand what I'm asking, I'm also asking if MP is a good way to go in this situation.
I do expect almost everyone to reply and say "Just be an officer", or something. I'd like to be in charge of people, to take command, be a leader, etc.
