I want to be available for chat, but internet explorer says no!?

When I click the smiling chat icon, the computer comes back and says I cannot be available because I signed up for messenger-chat on another device. I had to use the library to sign up. How do I undo this. I want to chat with family and friends, virtually instantly. Help!
 
Maybe not the library if you signed out there
Maybe yahoo mail is the other device
Check your status in yahoo mail next to your name
Make it "offline" by using the dropbox next to your name
Try to sign into messenger
