I want to be an author so what classes should I take and/or what clubs should I join in high school that will help me?
I already write a lot and I just finished writing my first novel. I don't think it is all that great and I know I have a long way to go, but my friends loved it.
I just want to get better.
Thanks guys! And ya. I get that friends and family are not the best judges. :)
There is a in my neighborhood that is my friend. But she knows me and I trust her a lot. I gave her some of my novel to edit and she is working on it now.
I can't wait to get it back and see what mistakes I made that my own eyes couldn't see!

I think you would be very lucky to be able to join clubs at school, when I was at school there were none.

There are a few sites on the internet where you can post your work and have people tell you there thoughts.

Here are two I know of, called,

Storywrite.com and

Fanstory.com

The first one you can have a free account the second one you do have to pay for a membership, but you can be a free member and just read other peoples work, which will give you a feel for the site,

Hope this helps.
Sarah.

Okay....rule number one: you're either a writer, or you are not.

With writers, such as myself, it's near impossible for us to not write. A born writer does not need classes or clubs....congrats on your first novel.

But that doesn't mean you can get it published. It needs to be OUTSTANDINGLY good in order for a novel to be published. I have to admit that friends/family are not always the best critic of a writer's work. You need to post inserts on sites like YA and also on a site like worthyofpublishing.com. Even on that site, though, much of the work is not good. Get everyone else's opinion first. As a writer myself, I have people telling me that they will buy my book and read it one hundred times over.....THAT is the praise you need from complete strangers. A real writer is born, not made. If you really think you need it, go ahead and take some classes. All I'm say is that it should be coming to you naturally.

Again, I didn't write this to bash your dreams, but writing is a lot harder than people give credit....try it out, though, and see what happens. Let OTHER people critique your writing.

Good luck!
