I want new wheels for my road bike rear hub spacing is 130mm?

want new wheels. I would eventually like to upgrade to a 8,9,10 speed cassette but do not have the money for the new shifters. can i buy a new wheelset that fits a nine speed and just slap on my old 6 speed cassette? I guess what im asking is the threading the same between the six and the 8? dont see why it wouldnt be but who knows
