I took off the rubber on the dirt bike where the chain rubs against. Is this bad?

Would it still run fine? I got a bike from China and the instructions to put together were really poor. The rubber where the chain was laying on seemed to tighten the chain too much to function, so I took it all off. How will this affect my bike?
 
Are you talking about a spring loaded chain tensioner that rides on the bottom run of the chain?If so i would put it back on.It is designed to adjust for slack in the chain.The chain should be run slightly slack and the tensioner should take up the free play.
