About 15 years ago I threw my back out lifting water soaked boat cushions out of barrels to wash them. I was down for a good week or so. Then in just the last 3 to 4 years I seem to throw it out all the time by doing the simplest of things like reaching for the tv remote, picking up the cats food dish, folding a towel and this time I was bending over the sink washing my hair. I have always had the most achiest back since I can remeraber. Can't sleep on it or my stomach cause it hurts after just a few minutes.
So here I am doing the heating pad and then the cold compress. Anyone got anyother ideas????? No doctors, can't afford anymore bills at this time.
This happened last Wed. and will be bad for a good week, so I have to lay on the hard floor w/ legs up doing the compresses and my back hurts the whole time.

Hi Jodi. I would be doing you a disservice if I offered any kind of diagnosis based on your information. Obviously, there is something going on with your back but the best way to diagnose it is to see a doctor. I can empathize with you on the finances....I need oral surgery for a molar but don't have the $2,000 or so that will be needed.

However, your back is involved in every motion you make and it would be money well spent to see a family doctor at least for starters. I hope you can do that and that you will stay in touch.

You do need to get to a doc and get some x-rays done of your lower back. I can completely relate on not being able to afford any more doctor bills, but your spine is nothing to mess with.

Having been through 5 years of trying to get a doc to take my problems seriously, I am finally getting some answers. Not at the final answer yet, but surgery may be in my future.

Some of your issues/symptoms sound familiar to me, which is why I don't think you should wait much longer on getting this looked at.

jodi98,
You probably should go to a doctor or a chiropractor first. It will just keep happening. I have had back troubles for 20 years or more. I hurt it lifting just like you did, then after having kiRAB and aging it just deteriorated to the point of throwing it out often. the first time I tried to treat it myself and I did the completely WRONG thing by applying a heating pad thinking I had just strained the muscles. After a couple days of agony I went to the chiropractor and they really helped me. I didn't go before that. However, I was told to never put heat on it, just ice packs. I use the blue gel packs that you cool in the freezer. So, now when I start to feel like it is on the verge of going out again, I ice it, do careful stretches, rest, etc. Another thing you can use to help the pain is biofreeze or something like that. It's a gel that you rub into your skin. I also had to go to physical therapy for about 8 weeks to help the pain in my back and legs. Once you are over the spasms and pain, try very carefully to stretch and strengthen your core. You should ask a docotor about that too. They can give you physical therapy exercises to do. They are usually simple and easy to do but can really help a lot. Good luck. I know how you feel!
