It's groceries
Could it be she is not aware that you can pay in full to avoid interest and get hundreds of dollars a year in cash back?
 
What you really have there is a question about interpersonal relationships, and communicating with your mil about delicate matters.

In-law relationships and money questions are two of the most difficult questions in a marriage, so when one situation involves both.... be very careful how you discuss it with her.
