I don't what which Kaiser you are going to but from me experience, if your doctors have not diagnosed you, switch doctors, or find a different branch of Kaiser to go to. See as many specialist as you can. One problem with Kaiser is that their doctors don't talk to each other. Therefore, your care is not necessarily coordinated between the specialties.
As to your gf's symptoms, has she had a colonoscopy? Sound like she may have a touch of crohn's disease. It's not that easy to diagnose without the procedure. I have it myself and it took Kaiser a year to fix the diagnosis. I changed my gastroenterologist and he made the diagnosis. Even after that he did not begin to treat me with medication until another doctor asked why he wasn't. That's kaiser...it's kind of like to the DMV. If you want results you have to push them.
Crohn's disease can appear anywhere from the throat to the rectum. There are problems with absorption of food. Sometimes blood in stood with diarrhea. There can be pain or not. It a very personal disease. Also, if she has a history of hypoglycemia, maybe she is diabetic which would complicate the healing process. If she is diabetic, she needs treatment to stabilize her blood sugar, otherwise she will have further complications. Diabetis slows the healing process of all disorders when the blood sugar is not stabilized. It sounds like she has several systems which need to be addressed. Also there are some good books on the subject, one called "The New Eating Right For a Bad Gut", by James Scala, Ph.D. ISBN" 0-452-27976-3. Lap bands are not recommended for persons with crohn's disease, and if she had it installed without first having the diagnosis, that might explain some of the complications. Good Luck.
