I think Kaiser is letting her die... She hurts far too much to be psycosymptomatic!

So, my gf has had this stomach issue for a while now and the doctors don't have any idea's. Maybe someone here can give a new opinion or maybe has delt with this before. She had a gastric bi-pass surgy when she was about 17, and recovered just fine from it (no scar tissue, or complications with it). But for about 9+ months now she's had these terrible stomach pains when ever she eats. The doctors have giving her all sorts of different pills ( from anti-acids, pain meds, antibiotics just in case it was an infection, nausea meds, nerve pain meds, etc.) The pain is so intese she balls up and cries after eating. That's when the pain is at it's worst. The pain is constant however, and it radiates from the right to left side. As of the last few days she has had a constant pain just under her lowest left rib.

Other symptoms: nausea after eating, low blood sugar, low hemoglobin with high binding capacity, vitamin deficiencies from iron to b1. Severe anemia causing bruises to appear at nothing, she constantly has bruises of different ages on her shins. Weight is stable but no appetite when not being forced to eat. Low platelet counts, normal WBC and RBC. Fatigue is constant and she sleeps about 14+ hrs per day. She is on vitamin supplements including iron gluconate(3x/day), b12, b6, b1, d, calcium, fiber, and one a day max (2x/day). No change in vitamin deficency is noticable. She has the worst prolems with meat, dairy, and whole grains. She cannot eat any from of meat that is not ground up, esp beef and fatty meats, and she can only have non-fat dairy and only on good days. She also gets roving tingling throught the bones in her limbs as well as having muscle weakness. She has a history of migrains and blood sugar related headaches. She's hypoglycemic. She has a constant weight that is normal for her size and it fluctuates very little. Doctors have done upper endoscopy, ultra sounds, ct scan, nucular medicine scans of gallbladder and liver functions, & blood work. Kaiser seems to be unable to diagnose her and sent her home about 6 weeks ago to "wait out the symptoms" while taking belladonna, gabapentine, and fenergan for pain. They keep her on omperazole but that causes her to throw up whole food and often enough to even cause esophageal bleeding. The pain is also affected by the amount of stress and physical exertion she undergoes. The harder her day, the worse the pain. She is almost having to go on disability because she cannot be driving and taking the pain meds.

Kaiser thinks this is psychosomatic? Seems like it would have something to do with her gastric bypass surgery if it all happened after that. If she isn't absorbing vitamins she may have intestinal problems like celiac disease but it sure seems like a place like Kaiser would be able to figure that out.

I think she needs to see a good naturopathic doctor, maybe one who knows about juicing to help regain her health. I don't think she can afford to wait.

Was her anemia checked to see if it is pernicious anemia? There are many different kinds but for some you need B12 shots, literally, to get well, because for some reason your guts can't absorb it and therefore you can't make use of your iron.

Yes, my mom is going through the same thing (for the past year). She hasn't been in a lot of pain, but mainly the mental problems associated with H Pylori and loss of B-12 from Omperazole, etc. Search on these boards for B-12 deficiency and you will find some good info. Look for Scout of Rainbows End. They have good information on this topic. I have learned that low B-12 can cause oodles of problems and can be fatal if not treated and is very easy to treat and turn around. Do it.

Good Luck

Most likely its complications/side effects from the gastric bypass. Those symptoms sound what most gastric bypass patients go through for a little while before they recover fully. Is she eating very small frequent meals?

Has anyone thought that the pain she is having could be adhesions or a lot of scar tissue build up from the surgery?

Hope she is doing better by now!
