I think it's time Asian Canadians should form a 'nation within a nation'. What do you...

...think? Good idea? Someone said it's because there are Chinese, Japanese, Indian, etc. groups. Each are ethnic groups without a geographical area attached to them like people in Quebec or the First Nations.

Others say that only the French and English are the founding groups who have claim to this land we call Canada. Some say the English, French and First Nations. Everyone else is a guest and that's it. History isn't fair.

Well I say it's more like reality isn't fair to them. After 150 years of proud history especially in BC and throughout North America, Asian Canadians/Americans need a new identity tied to the land. They migrated as any other European did. Some evidence on the Pacific coast suggest Asians may have visited the new world even a few hundred years before Europeans did.

For 100 years too long, Asians are portrayed as the perpetual immigrant and foreigner. It's unfortunate that a lot of non-white Canadians have come to believe that they don't really belong as a result. I'm glad there are support groups for new Canadians, what about the ones who are native-born?

What do you think? If Canada is to be a true mosaic, then it should not exclude non-aboriginal peoples that are not European and have called their part of the New World home for 150 years!

Please, if you're a self-righteous European or Euro Canadian/American with nothing smart to spew out but distaste, insecurity and hate, don't bother responding = D
