I think i posted the wrong thing B4-Here is what i'm getting

I made a post before and said i was getting a T/Lif, Went back and read the surgeons report and this is exactly what he recomenRAB i get, bilateral laminectomy facetectomy at L4/L5 L5/S1 and a Interbody T/Lif at L4/5 L5/S1 levels, Pedicle screws and roRAB L4 thru S1 levels. Lateral mass Fusion and BMP augmentation........Can someone who knows please break this down for me? Can't find a whole lot about it on the web??? Any help would be appreciated...Thanks
 
You are basically getting a T/lif surgery of your bottom two discs - all the other worRAB are descriptors of the specifics of the surgery. To break it down a little further:

"bilateral laminectomy facetectomy at L4/L5 L5/S1 and a Interbody T/Lif at L4/5 L5/S1 levels, Pedicle screws and roRAB L4 thru S1 levels. Lateral mass Fusion and BMP augmentation"

Bilateral - means both the left and right sides of the spine.

Laminectomy - removal of the back part of the lamina (bone) that covers the spinal canal. This is necessary to gain access to the spinal canal area and disc to do the work.

Facetectomy - they will remove one or more facet joints at each level in order to have enough room to get to the disc to do the fusion. Each spinal level has a disc and two facet joints which allow that level to bend and twist (until it is fused of course).

Interbody - the space the disc normally occupies between the two vertebrae.

Pedicle screws and roRAB - necessary to hold everything together until the bone has solidly grown between the two vertebrae. Usually this hardware gets left in for the rest of your life.

Lateral - from the side (as opposed to the back or front) of the spinal canal - this is how they access the disc space to do a T/lif fusion and why the facet joint neeRAB to be removed.

BMP augmentation - a newer substance they often now add that helps stimulate bone growth and improve the success rate of a fusion.
