Met this Chinese student at a party a couple weeks ago. Now, we've gone out a couple times. Lunch on campus, dinner at Italian place, and drive-in movie. Things seem to go rather well. She smiles and laughs a lot and has outright praised me as someone that she supposedly feels more natural around and that she normally doesn't open up this fast to most people (whether that's "hey we click as a potential couple" or "you're a great friend" is unknown to me). She always makes sure to dress up, do her nails, and put on perfume whenever we do something together. However, for all I know, she may do this anyway, I haven't known her very long, though she wasn't that dressed up at the party we met at.
She even asked her best friend to change the date of her birthday party from Friday to Saturday so we could go to the drive-in. We had agreed last week to Friday, though her friend sprung the birthday party idea on her and she went with it not really thinking about it (was really stressed over a paper, I talked to her that day so I know). She then got her friend to change it to Saturday. When I went to pick her up today, she was out somewhere and her friend (female, the same friend whose having the birthday party actually) dropped her off in front of her apartment (a few minutes, but who cares) to go with me. She was dressed up, had perfume on and all that, so either she dresses up regularly or she dressed up knowing we were going out immediately after she hung out with her friend.
However, every time we've gone out she's paid her share. I've never actually tried to deny her or say "Don't worry I'll pay for all of it" even though I should. I tell myself I will, but when the moment actually comes I don't do it. She also ends every night with a goodbye handshake, which is pretty bad by American standards, though I'm not sure how Chinese standards are. She's comfortable with me touching her on the shoulder and stuff, like I did at the drive-in, and I've complimented her on her appearance and personality to positive results. She did bring up her ex-boyfriend once after she asked if I smoked or not (answer: no). Apparently he smoked every day and she didn't like it, though that's all she said about him.
So, what's the deal? Does she like me or are we just becoming close friends? I thought her asking her best friend to change the date of her birthday party so she can go to the movies with a guy she's only know a couple weeks had gotta be a good sign. Of course, the original plan was for movie before her friend sprung the birthday thing, so maybe she's just really, really dedicated to sticking true to prior plans.
