i stepped on a nail :(

ok here is my story, last sunday, today is friday, i stepped on a nail. the nail was rusty and dirty and i was wearing my running shoes. the nail got in about an inch. the wound bleed alot the first hour then it gradually stopped. it is not bleeding now and i think it has heal, it feels crusted. there are no signs of infection locally, the wound has heal, swelling is minor ( i can only tell foot is swelled when i wear shoes, the injured foot shoe feels more tight) and there is no pain. i can walk slowly, if i walk fast minor pain arises from wound area. i took a tetanus shot on wednesday just as a precaution measure. should i be worried about a system infection? i have no symptoms that i know of. did the storm already pass? i mean its been almost a week. i thought infections were fast.

i know self diagnosing is wrong but i have no insurance. any comments or questions are welcome :)

im not a doctor but i think you should be okay. just keep taking care of the wound for another 7 days or so. if you develop any symptoms on your body, like pain on the joints or fever or whatever go to a doctor, taking antibiotics without prescription can be dangerous.

generally signs of infection are swelling, red streaks shooting out from the original wound sight, puss from the wound, etc. If your concerned, clean it with peroxide each day and keep antibiotic ointment on it and keep it covered with a bandage.

I would not take the antibiotics since you don't even know if you have any kind of infection.

there is no swelling (only a tiny bit) and there is no redness and no drainage of any kind. i did research online and thats how i find out which antibiotics you should take for systematic infections.
