I stepped in something weird and now my foot is tingly and numb?

I was putting my bike back in the garage when I stepped on a brown, sticky-like substance in a large bucket that had a similar stench to shoe cleaner. Now my foot feels tingly, numb, and almost as if I have pins and needles (the expression). I washed it, but it continues to feel this way. I was wearing my sandal when I stepped in it so my foot was not protected. Any suggestions to what the substance was and what it may have done to cause my foot to feel this way?

was it liquidy? You might have stepped on what I call a "gumball" it could have had germs on it to make it a little sticky, if the water has been sitting in there a while. I stepped on a gumball once, since I always go bare foot, and it did hurt like "pins and needles" even after I washed it. Gumballs are rown little spheres with spikes on them. They are brown, and usually fall down in the woods where a lot of trees are around. I don't know the specific tree, but I do know that they hurt and I have a ton of them in my yard.
