I scraped my ankle on a rusty swing set. It barely broke skin, but did bleed a little.

It's not really rust, but dirt that is the source of tetanus. Have you had a tetanus shot in the last five years? Or even 10? If so, don't worry about it.

If not, go get a tetanus shot.

Highly unlikely from the description that you got tetanus.

Tetanus can be treated, but it's not a great treatment. It involves being put into a coma and having all your muscles paralyzed for about a month until your body beats back the tetanus.

So no, you won't die, probably. Read the link below for a more thorough answer.

Tetanus is transferred via deep cuts or puncture wounds not scrapes, but you should make sure your tetanus vaccine is up to date. If you are unsure about your tetanus vaccine then you should go to the ER to make sure.

Do I have tetanus? I was swinging on a swing set in a park here. I jumped off and skinned my ankle a bit on a piece of rust. I'm worried to death now. It just scraped the skin, and it barely bled. So now I'm sitting here putting alcohol and peroxide into it with a qtip a day later. It's a bit red, nothing more than any other scrape would be, and it's scabbed over. It hurts if I put steady pressure on it, but not badly. Am I going to die?
