...owner companions.? About 7 wks. ago, I was getting ready to visit family in Ohio. I don't know why but I clicked on "Answers". On the screen in front of me was a question posted only seconds before. The question was from a young man whose dog had just been diagnosed with, I believe, lymphoma, and was wondering how he was going to get through the eventual loss of his friend. We lost our beloved Scout, a choc lab, on Dec. 10, 2008. We were devastated, as was his litter mate, Trooper and his cat sister, Lucy. Troopers health began to deteriorate soon after. We thought it was depression. He searched for Scout every day. The only time Trooper seemed to be in good spirits and feel good was when we took him to the dog park or the beach. But even then, he was always on the lookout for his brother. He would howl into the crashing waves. It was heartbreaking. Early in March, I took him to the vet. I thought he was grieving himself to death. But X-rays revealed liver disease. I left on April 24th, praying he would be at the door to greet me when I returned. Sadly, my husband had to let Trooper go to be with Scout on April 25th. I was not there to lay with Trooper as he joined Scout but I know he knew how much he was loved....BOTH of them. They are together now. Forever. And are happy to be giving swimming lessons to their new friends who didn't know how to. I would love to include the poem in the scrapbook pages of "The Adventures of Trooper & Scout."
