I replaced my battery in a toyota corolla (used battery, but tested positive) I

then jumped it and sparks flew? sparks everywhere. Was pumping MAJOR juice because the negative cable on the good car almost set my engine on fire. It made the metal glow red!

I have know idea what this was. I guess I need to try another battery; but could this be do to something electrical in the car? Something to do with the alarm?

Nothing wrong with the cables
 
after the smoke clears, check your cables. when that's fixed you might want to check the alternator , more than likely you cooked it too
