I recently cleaned out my pond, and 24 hrs. later, all the fish were dead. Any ideas?

I did everything the same, wiping it out with just warm water and a scrubbie, put new water in with the pump running, and then added chemicals.I let the pump cycle the water for a little while and then put the fish back in. Then the fish just staryed dropping like flies. after they were all dead, I completely cleaned everything out again, and reset it up. Bought a quick test kit and it tells me that the alkaline is just above ideal, and the ph is between acceptable and high. After I let it run almost a full day, we tried just some feeder fish. They are now all dead. I am besides myself. Had this pond for quite a few years now, and this is the first problems i've had.

Did you say you cleaned ALL the water? Because if you did, that's your problem right there. You can't just take all of the water out of the pond every cleaning. That will cause your tank to cycle all over again, and the high amounts of ammonia and nitrite will very quickly kill your fish. Did you notice any red streaking on the fins/gills before death?

Did you even test for ammonia and nitrite?

Good luck.
