I read the book A Fine Balance recently and now no book seems to hold a candle...

...to it. Plz suggest something? I have heard Shantaram is good but I heard that God of small things is good too and I didnt like it one bit. I have loved Kite Runner and A thousand splendid suns but A Fine Balance seems to be amongst the kind of books I like and would prefer.
Please suggest some great, ineresting books.
