The plot involves a poor girl who is unhappy and feels like her family is ignoring her. She lives, literally on the wrong side of the tracks. She then meets a wealthy older woman who befriends her because she has a daughter her age away at boarding school. They are both lonely and the woman starts treating her as her own daughter and launching her into a wealthy social group. The girl starts abandoning her own family for time with this woman and feels like she is becoming her daughter. It turns out that the daughter is dead and the woman is mentally ill and trying to replace her. She realizes the value of real life with her own family versus a fantasy life with a crazy woman. It's very suspenseful and fascinating and I would love suggestions to help find it. Thanks!
