...How do I remove the test stain? I just discovered that the new solid stain looks different on the bare wood versus the previously stained 3' x 6' test section. I'm not sure how to fix this. The first color was off white and I added brown to it to make it beige. When I put the beige on top of the off white, it looks orangey.
I have a few ideas, but I'm not sure any of them would work:
1) power wash off as much of the test stain as possible.
2) paint the test section muted brown like the fence before applying the new stain.
3) sand off the test stain
4) tint the new stain darker for the section of fence that has the test stain so that it looks the same color as the new stain looks on raw wood.
