I own a 99 cadillac catera having trouble starting the car?

when key turned check engine light will not come one and the transmission and traction control light stay on this is the second time it does that the first time it happened car turned off on me the check engine light did not come on after a couple times that i try ed to turn it on the car started only after the check engine light turned on.
